Green tea with roasted rice and powder tea

Traditional specialty made from second flush leaves mixed with roasted rice (genmai) and fresh matcha powder. Dark green liquor with a pleasant roasted character.

How to brew Genmaicha tea

Use 5 grams of tea leaves for 0.5 liter of boiling water cooled to 75–80 ᵒC, and steep for 60 seconds. Feel free to experiment with steeping time, water temperature, and the amount of tea leaves. You can also read our articles on tea preparation and water quality.

Genmaicha gives pleasure through its combination of green tea aroma and roasted rice. Because green tea of middle grade is used and mixed with roasted rice (genmai), it contains less caffeine and you may drink more of this tea, similar to Houjicha. By drinking Genmaicha you also consume a substance contained in dark rice called GABA: gamma-aminobutyric acid, which relieves stress. (Note: This acid is contained in brown unmilled rice – genmai.)
