Darjeeling First Flush North Tukvar

The tea has a golden infusion of full-bodied, brisk flavour with a pleasant sweet floral and fruity slightly spicy aftertaste.

How to brew Darjeeling North Tukvar

North Tukvar Tea Estate

North Tukvar - historically known as Singla Tea Estate - was one of the first commercial tea plantations established by the British. The 200-hectare ISO 9002-certified garden is located at an elevation of 1,500 to 2,800 feet (about 460 to 850 meters) and lies in a rain shadow area. Although located in an arid area, 75% of the garden is irrigated by sprinklers using gravity. The garden also has its own nursery and a forest with trees and bamboo.

The tea bushes are Assam hybrids, China hybrids and cloned varieties from Darjeeling, adapted to the agro-climatic conditions of the area. This garden earned its name by being one of the first to produce both green and black tea.
'Tukvar' is said to mean 'flame of fire' or 'pile of firewood' in local languages. 'North' simply refers to its location in the northern part of Darjeeling district.
The plantation employs 647 workers who are provided with accommodation, health care and educational facilities. Access to safe drinking water is also provided in the workers' settlements.
