Side-handle teapot (kyusu) made of light brown clay, handcrafted by artist Gyokkou. It has beautiful light reddish accents from firing. There is a ceramic strainer in front of the spout.

In Japan, green tea (sencha) is prepared in small clay teapots, so-called kyusu (side handle) or shiboridashi (no handle). They are simple and elegant. A fine strainer is fitted in the spout, which facilitates the preparation of several infusions. Teapots of this type are made of green and red clay, according to original procedures without glaze, but with an excellent polish.

Japanese Kyusu side handle teapots are ideal for brewing green tea. The tea leaves can unfold freely in the pot and are retained by an integrated strainer in front of the spout during infusion. The filling quantity of the pot should be chosen in such a way that the tea can be completely distributed over the waiting cup(s) and no water remains in the pot. The leaves remain in the pot and are then simply brewed again briefly with water for further infusions.
